A Gift Guide for the Healthy Chef

December 3, 2017 By Food to Feel Good Leave a Comment

Thanksgiving has come and gone (sigh) and now we’re transitioning from leaves and pumpkin-spiced-everything to a winter wonderland, filled with hot cocoa, all sorts of gingerbread baked goods, and presents…lots of presents!

A Gift Guide for the Healthy Chef | Healthy Gift Ideas | Gifts for the Healthy Person | A Gift Guide for the Home Cook | Gifts for the Person who Loves to Cook

I get a little overwhelmed buying everyone on my list gifts at the same time, in contrast to birthdays when I can just focus on spoiling one person at a time. Gift guides are a great way to get some gift-giving inspiration and to help others decide on what kinds of things you’d really enjoy receiving.

So, if you’re reading this thinking, “I wish someone would get ME these gifts!” just scroll to the bottom of this post, hit the green envelope icon under “Health is Wealth”, and send it on over to your better half, your mom, Santa—I’m sure whoever it is they’ll be grateful for the hint 🙂

A Gift Guide for the Healthy Chef | Holiday Healthy Gift Guide | Healthy Gift Ideas | Healthy Gift Inspiration | Nutritious Gifts

As a self-taught chef and Clinical Nutritionist, I have discovered SO many kitchen gadgets, books, and ingredients that I really adore. Not only can the right kitchen tools make whipping up an amazing dish easier, they can also make it more fun and more successful (with a better texture, appearance, etc.). So, let’s dive into to my Gift Guide for the Healthy Chef so you can get your shopping done and then move on to the good stuff (like holiday menu planning)!

Thrive Market Discount Membership

A Thrive Market Membership

This is the PERFECT gift for your at-home-natural-foods-chef! Imagine Whole Foods meets Costco—real, healthy foods, at discount prices.  That’s Thrive Market. Plus, you’re getting healthy ingredients delivered right to your very own doorstep. You can get a free 30-day trial and 15% off your first order using the link above, just click the image.

As an extra perk, for every membership bought, Thrive sponsors one for a low-income family. So wonderful! They carry all my favorite brands and I discover new ones there all the time. I gotta tell ya, I’d be thrilled to get this as a gift because that way all year-long I could order super-healthy, high-quality ingredients for really great prices.

Non-Toxic Nonstick Cookware

Conventional nonstick cookware has some pretty gnarly, toxic chemicals on it that can flake off into your food…yuck. These Green Pans have a ceramic coating free of harmful agents, making them a cleaner way to cook with that ever-so-helpful smooth-sliding surface for perfect pancakes, omelets, seared salmon, whatever!

Stasher Silicon Storage Bags

These flexible, resealable bags are not only really durable but they help you avoid wasteful plastic bags and toxic chemicals while keeping your food fresh and ready to chomp.

Cuisinart 14-Cup Food Processor

I actually received this as a Christmas gift myself, from my wonderful husband 6 years ago. It’s still going strong despite being used several times a week. Thanks to the large size of this food processor and its helpful attachments (chopping blade, dough blade, two different shredders), it can handle everything from cookie dough to hummus to salsa. It’s definitely worth the investment thanks to its awesome versatility.

Veggie Spiralizer

This magical piece of kitchen equipment turns anything into healthy noodles. My favorites are cucumbers, zucchini, sweet potatoes, and beets. It’s super easy to use and relatively inexpensive, plus kids enjoy turning the handle and watching veggies become fun curlicues. If you know a pasta lover who is trying to eat lower carb, or just someone who enjoys fun new recipes, this is the perfect gift for them.

Silpat Baking Mats

I love, love, love baking with these. They bake-up the most perfectly golden cookies every time and make clean up a breeze, plus no more parchment paper going in the trash every time you need to line a baking sheet. Anyone who loves to bake needs to have these in their kitchen!

Immersion Blender

This is super helpful for creamy cold-weather dishes like bisques and sauces. Just pop it into your pot and mix away! Fewer dishes (plus you don’t have to do seven batches of soup in your blender) and really easy to use.

Mini Frother

This little gadget is a MUST HAVE for those hot cocoa and latte lovers out there. In just seconds, it whips up whatever kind of milk you prefer into a frothy, delicious beverage that looks extra special.

Vitamix Blender

Oh baby, this is a big one. This blender does everythinnngggg. Homemade nut butter, sorbet, vegan cheesecake, smoothies…. the list goes on and on and they all come out with the most delectable, creamy texture. My husband was doubtful of asking for a blender with this kind of price tag (we registered for it as a wedding gift) but soon after we received it he was making a green smoothie every single morning to take to work 🙂 Now he’s a total Vitamix believer.

Practical Paleo

Paleo or not, this is an excellent cookbook that comes along with tons of helpful health information, for examples sections about Leaky Gut and Autoimmunity, as well as meal plans for a wide variety of health goals. Most of these recipes are pretty straightforward and easy to whip up (even for a beginner chef) and all of them are delicious and truly satisfying.

Oh She Glows Cookbook

Another one of my favorites, this Vegan cookbook has tons of nourishing meals that you’ll want to work into your weekly routine. Some are a healthier twist on old favorites, like a classic but amazing Veggie Burger and Life-Affirming Warm Nacho Dip, while others are a little different, like Cherry Basil Bruschetta and Soul-Soothing African Peanut Soup. And let’s not forget dessert—Fudgy Mocha Pudding Cake is just one of many yummy treats. I promise anyone who enjoys healthy cooking would love to receive this beautiful book.

The Gluten-Free Almond Flour Cookbook

This little book has a LOT to offer, like tons of amazing gluten-free, dairy-free, high-protein baked goods that will blow you away. Everything I’ve made from it has pleased a crowd, even those who still love white-flour and processed sugar.

You Are A Badass

Okay, this actually has nothing to do with cooking, but it’s one of my most favorite books of all time and I think everyone should read it! It’s especially right for that person who’s working on a shift in their life, who is looking to make a leap or find a little more confidence to make their dreams happen for real. The author is hi-la-ri-ous and it’s a really fun read.
